What is the Google Ads Budget Calculator?

How much should you spend on Google Ads? Choose your industry to load typical cost-per-click and conversion rate benchmarks (or enter your own), then plan in either direction: tell the calculator how many leads you want and it works out the monthly and daily budget required, or enter the budget you have and see the clicks and leads it should buy.

The calculator also checks whether the budget is enough to collect meaningful data and to give Smart Bidding the conversion volume it needs.

Key features of the Google Ads Budget Calculator

  • Two planning modes

Budget from a lead goal, or leads from a fixed budget.

  • Industry benchmarks

Starting CPC and conversion rate assumptions for 20+ industries — always editable.

  • Daily budget

Converts monthly budget into Google’s average daily budget (monthly ÷ 30.4).

  • Learning-phase check

Flags budgets too small for reliable data or Smart Bidding.

  • Budget tiers

Conservative, expected and aggressive spend scenarios.

How to use the Google Ads Budget Calculator

  1. Pick your industry

Load benchmark CPC and conversion rate, then adjust to your market.

  2. Choose a mode

Lead goal → budget, or budget → leads.

  3. Enter your numbers

Target leads per month or the monthly budget you have available.

  4. Review scenarios

Compare tiers and copy the daily budget into Google Ads.

How Google Ads daily budgets work

Google treats your daily budget as an average. On any given day it can spend up to twice the daily budget, but over a calendar month it will not charge more than the daily budget multiplied by 30.4. That is why the calculator converts monthly plans into an average daily budget.

Why benchmarks are only a starting point

Published benchmarks average thousands of accounts across many cities. Your real cost per click depends on local competition, Quality Score, bidding strategy and time of year. Use the benchmark to plan the first month, then replace the assumptions with your own account data.

Is my budget big enough?

A campaign needs enough clicks to learn. As a rule of thumb, budget for at least 10–20 clicks a day per campaign and, if you plan to use Maximize Conversions or Target CPA, enough spend to produce at least 15–30 conversions per month.

Pro tips from our PPC and SEO team

  • Start with fewer, high-intent keywords if the budget is tight.
  • Concentrate budget on the hours and areas that convert best.
  • Keep 10–20% of the budget for testing new keywords and ads.
  • Review spend pacing weekly in the first month.

Google Ads Budget Calculator: frequently asked questions

How much does Google Ads cost per month?

There is no minimum. Small local businesses often spend $500–$3,000 per month, while competitive industries such as legal or insurance may need several times that to generate steady leads.

Where do the benchmark numbers come from?

They are rounded starting assumptions based on widely published industry averages for search campaigns. They vary by location and change over time, so always edit them to match your own data.

Can Google spend more than my daily budget?

Yes, up to twice the daily budget on a single day, but not more than 30.4 × the daily budget across the month.

What budget do I need for Smart Bidding?

Enough to generate around 15–30 conversions in 30 days per campaign. Below that, Maximize Clicks with a CPC cap or Manual CPC can be more stable.
