What is the CPC Calculator?

Cost per click is the price you pay each time someone clicks your ad. Enter any two of ad spend, clicks and CPC and the calculator solves the third, so you can check campaign results or plan how many clicks a budget will buy.

The maximum CPC section goes further: from your target cost per acquisition and conversion rate it works out the most you can afford to bid per click while staying profitable.

How to calculate CPC

CPC = total ad cost ÷ number of clicks. If you spent $1,200 and received 400 clicks, your average CPC is $3.00. In Google Ads, the price you actually pay is usually lower than your maximum bid, because the auction charges just enough to beat the next advertiser.

How to work out your maximum CPC

Maximum CPC = target cost per acquisition × conversion rate. If a lead is worth paying $60 for and 8% of clicks become leads, you can afford up to $4.80 per click. Raising the conversion rate raises the bid you can afford.

Pro tips from our PPC and SEO team

  • Improve Quality Score to lower CPC without lowering position.
  • Bid more on exact-match keywords that convert best.
  • Use the max CPC as a ceiling for manual or capped bidding.

CPC Calculator: frequently asked questions

What is a good CPC?

There is no universal good CPC. It depends on industry, competition and what a conversion is worth. A $15 CPC can be cheap for a lawyer and expensive for an online store.

Why is my actual CPC lower than my bid?

Google charges the minimum needed to keep your position, based on the next advertiser’s Ad Rank and your Quality Score.

How do I lower my CPC?

Improve ad relevance, expected CTR and landing page experience, add negative keywords, and focus on long-tail keywords with less competition.
